“Ooooh, that looks so healthy!”
I’m only half kidding when I say that if you haven’t been to a Trader Joe’s, then you haven’t lived.
It allows you to shop healthy and organic – like you would at Whole Foods – but at half the price. For a girl who’s on a budget, this is the ideal place to pick up some healthy snacks and ingredients that I have trouble finding at my usual grocery store, Giant.
Today was Day 5 of my Vegan challenge, and I was feeling a little bored of what I’ve been eating all week so I decided to swing by Trader Joe’s. There’s one about a 15minute drive away, right in Ardmore, on Philadelphia’s “Main Line.”
My eyes were drawn to all of the enticing non-vegan food items (I literally had to skip over the cheese aisle because I definitely would have caved). Anyways, I noticed something I’ve never seen before – Vegetable Bird’s Nests – made with onions, carrots, and kale and cooked in a tempura batter with soy dipping sauce. Talk about yum! I also picked up some Soy & Flaxseed Tortilla Chips to have with my hummus – a solid option considering they have a good source of protein and fiber.
I’ve become pretty accustomed to shopping the cheese and meat aisle at Trader Joe’s, but today going in with the intent to stick to my vegan diet, they didn’t disappoint!
