Lately I've been striving to get better at meshing my work attire with my casual attire. I have found that J.Crew does a great job at providing those staple items that can be either dressed up for work or dressed down for a more casual weekend look. At first, I was intimidated by J.Crew's more expensive prices, but over the past year or so, I have come to love J.Crew Factory Store. Not only do they have a ton of products (still on trend) for half the price of the regular store, but they also offer great discounts like free shipping or buy one get one 50% if you sign up for their email list.
Some of my favorite staple items are:
The Plaid Popover
The plaid popover is preppy and sophisticated, but can also be dressed down with converse or dressed up with pointy flats and tucked into a pair of slacks. There are always new colors and styles available - from bright and fun colors, to more basic black and white gingham. Also, just to note, these shirts tend to run large, so definitely go a size down if you're ordering online.
The Shift Dress
You may think a simple shift dress, really? Why buy this from J.Crew when there are so many other options? Despite the fact that there are plenty of other options when it comes to availability of this dress style, for example, Loft, TJMaxx, Target, etc., there is something about the quality and appearance of the J.Crew shift dress that is comfortable, flattering, and promises a work appropriate length. I also love the variety of florals and solid colors - same dress, just different color!
The Statement Necklace
Almost every time I go to the factory site, the first thing I click on is jewelry! Their statement necklaces tend to go on sale pretty frequently, and I have loved building my collection. Most of my work outfits consist of solid colors, so I love that these necklaces can add just enough color for some flair. (Shhh, I didn't wear the same outfit two days in a row with a different necklace...) Compared to other statement necklaces I have tried, these ones 1) do not turn color and 2) are not heavy! Nothing is worse than feeling like your neck is being weighed down!! Beauty is pain, but let's not go too far.
