Weighted Blanket, An Honest Review
I’ve been wanting to get a weighted blanket for awhile. I first heard of them about a year ago when my mom’s friend said her daughter got one to help get a better night’s sleep by reducing stress and anxiety. I had never thought of the possibility that a blanket could have a mental effect, but let me tell you, now that I have my weighted blanket, there is no going back!
I’ll admit I am a worrywart. I tend to worry too much in fact, to the point where I’m stressed and anxious… especially when it’s time to go to sleep. I’m also very empathetic and oftentimes unnecessarily take other peoples’ burdens on as my own. My empathy is my achilles’ heel. I get stressed and worked up over little things and care way too much, sometimes to a fault. I could stay up until 2 am thinking and worrying about other people and things that are not even in my control. So as you can see, my worries were keeping me up at night and messing with my sleep schedule.
This Christmas my mom asked me if I wanted anything in particular for Christmas. My usually response is “no, nothing particular”, or “just clothes”. But this year I was siked to ask for a weighted blanket! Shortly after, I realized I wasn’t the only person asking for a weighted blanket. I started seeing them popping up everywhere and even started seeing memes on my Instagram feed saying things like “I don’t need a boyfriend, I just need a weighted blanket” lol. Sign me up!
Sure enough, my mom followed through and she really did get me a weighted blanket! The one she got is from Amazon and is a 20 lb blanket with glass beads inside. (I got the white one, right now it’s only available in gray!) Just as an FYI, it doesn’t come with a duvet cover, so I just have mine as a layer between my sheets and my top comforter. It’s okay for the winter, but once it gets warmer, I think I will have to get a duvet so I don’t have too many layers on my bed. (Luckily they do have a duvet available that you can order on Amazon Prime!)
At first, I wasn’t sure how it was going to work out because it literally is a 20 lb blanket and is actually pretty heavy. Making my bed was a bit of a struggle as I wrestled to get the covers situated. That should have been my first realization of the true weight of it, but it really didn’t hit me how heavy it was until I was laying in bed trying to pull the blankets up and had to really put in some effort. It was quite the adjustment, but once I got comfortable it felt like I was being swaddled up like a baby. Did anyone else’s parents tuck them in when they were little and wrap the blankets tightly around your feet like a little cocoon? That’s literally what the blanket feels like as it’s wrapped around you. The first night sleeping with it I was out like a light and slept soundly. It prevented me from tossing and turning, and I didn’t even wake up in the night. I’ve used it every night since, and have seen a major difference in my sleep.
It’s been about a month using the blanket and I’ve noticed I get more consistent night’s sleep and mentally, I find that it really does reduce my worries and anxiety. The weight of it makes me feel secure, basically like I’m being held, and it helps me feel calm making for a restful night’s sleep. I also had been having flare ups of bad dreams due to stress, and I don’t know if it’s merely coincidence, but I haven’t had any nightmares since using it.
If you’re a worrier, prone to stress, looking to get a better night’s sleep, OR just want to hop on the bandwagon and try it out, I would absolutely recommend this blanket!
P.S. I saw this review on Amazon and it’s too good not to share... he’s not wrong!
